1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee - Jeep Grand Cherokee is the king of the road!

I have had my Jeep Grand Cherokee for 9 years and before that my mom drove it for 10 years. This is one amazing vehicle! It has nearly 300,000 miles on it and has never let me down. I especially love the fact that it is 4 wheel drive. Living in the mountains it is hard to find a vehicle that can handle the snow of winter, muddy springs and get decent gas mileage too. The Jeep does it all with ease. I get 22 mpg even with all the hills and winding roads I drive every day. That is city mileage, or rather, Village mileage where the traffic is stop and go because of all the tourists stopping to take in the sights. On the highway my Jeep gets about 28 mpg. Now that may not seem great to some people, but to get that kind of mileage in a vehicle with all the cargo space I have, with 4 doors a... (more)

Living in the mountains we often embark on an adventure down some dirt road or another just for fun and to see where it leads. Last summer we spent a whole day touring the forest roads. At one point we came across a muddy spot that would have caused most people to turn around for fear of getting stuck. My niece took one look at the mud pit and started crying, begging me to go back. I told her ... (more)

Gas mileage. Car-like handling. Power to pass. Not top heavy.

If there is anything negative it's the age and mileage on my Jeep. The vehicle itself has no bad points.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee - I have been told my make and model of vehicle contains one of the most reliable engines out there. At over 300,000 miles, it is still going strong! However, I have had to replace many other parts while I've owned the vehicle just to keep it running, so a

When I first saw the vehicle, it was to be my first car purchase ever, and it was not at all what I had had in mind. But, considering my budget, and the great deal, I went for it.

Memorable? Dying in the middle of a busy 4-lane divided street and having to push the car into the middle of the median to wait for it to be able to start again. A bit more fun, was the time we went down to the creek on the military reserve and ended up stuck in some very loose sand! It sucked, but we worked together to dig it out.

I learned to love the car after I got it. I tell everyone that it 'drives like a boat' because if you are on a bumpy dirt road or something, you might just get motion sickness from all the swaying and bouncing around, but I love it. I think that means it has great shocks! I had originally wanted a smaller hatch back car, but have learned the value of a larger SUV style, and how useful it is for towing, or carrying, or holding large amounts of stuff. I've had to move a few times using just my truck!

It is a much older vehicle with a lot of use, a lot of wear and tear, and as such, a lot of the old or original parts just can't handle the job anymore and are needing to be replaced and fixed. It makes for a very expensive investment. It also gets low mpg, so costs more in gas.
