2014 ram 1500 transfer case fluid capacity

  • #1

So, I’ve read on here and a couple other forums that nobody knows for sure what to put in the transfer case in terms of fluid other than going back tot the dealership and losing their next 2 paychecks for 2 bottles of fluid. I’ve heard some have tried Dexron. I’ve heard ATF+4. And I’ve heard Redline Universal Trans fluid all are possibilities. But I don’t feel like I’ve gotten a definitive answer as to an alternative to going back to Dodge to get it. Does anyone have any idea what fluid goes in my Borg Warner 44-44 in my 2013 Ram 1500 Sport with a 6 speed trans??

Also, if I’m changing the fluid and filter in my trans, how many quarts does that take of ATF+4?

I put synthetic Transmission fluid in my t case 20k ago. As for transmission I'm not sure.

I would not put transmission fluid in it. It's not thick enough. Go get some royal purple full synthetic

Thick enough? You don't want thick. The 44-44 has a clutch pack in it like a transmission go to thick and you'll cook them.

Check your owners manual. Then go get the equivalent from Oreilly, Advance, Autozone, etc.

Believe it’s ATF+4 that’s required (verify that).

Did mine last summer. Piece of cake. Used Royal Purple Max ATF with no issues.

Is that for the transfer case or the trans?? I swear I’ve seen where the trans takes ATF+4 but not sure about the transfer case. Whatever fluid it is, it takes a little less than 2 bottles to fill the transfer case. I’m not sure how much of it fills the 6 speed trans though.

Believe it’s for both. With the thought that if your transfer case leaks into the trans pan you have the same fluid and aren’t mixing two different fluids together.

Could be wrong-I’m no expert. Just recall reading that.

Again-verify with your owners manual.

The 44-44 takes Mopar Transfercase Lubricant to tune of $30/qt. If you're under warranty that's what I would run but I've been running Redline C+ in my 44-44 and previously ran Amsoil MVATF in it with no issues. In fact, with both the C+ and Amsoil ATF the 44-44 switched into and out of 4Low much smoother than the Mopar fluid.

MidwestJ, I did consult my owners manual and it gave me this part number ( 68089195AA )and nothing more. I didn’t even see how much I’m supposed to add but from reading it’s less than 2 quarts. I’ve been trying to cross reference that part number and I’m not getting anywhere.

Exactly Hemi. I’m just wondering if theres a better product for less or equal to it. I’ve got 65000 miles so I’m out of warranty. Plus, my truck is Canadian, so it was out of warranty as soon as it entered the US. I’ll have to see if Nick has the Redline C+. Too bad I can’t add that to my trans since I’m doing a trans filter and fluid change.
