My Tía made the best caldos but never had anything but tap water to drink. One day we asked my alcoholic uncle for a beer and he gave us warm Schlitz from a can…with hot caldo.

We were digging a well in El Salvador in July (Campamento Dos) and we were DYIng. We’re from Houston and I THOUGHT we could handle humidity. Then they gave us Caldo for lunch.

I miss having caldo at my childhood friends house, but I just had an awesome idea. I'll ask my neighbor that I buy tamales from to make me some. I swear, that lovely lady knows how to hit the heat sweet spot.
