Losing an expensive phone such as an iPhone can be a nightmare, especially if you have sensitive data stored in it. In order to find someone else’s lost iPhone through Find My iPhone, that person must’ve turned on Find My iPhone prior to losing the phone. To check if Find My iPhone is on, go to Settings > tap your name > Find My. If that option was never turned on, then it’s going to be impossible to locate a missing iPhone through the Find My iPhone app.

Use Find My iPhone for someone else

To use Find My iPhone to track someone’s iPhone, or to use Find my iPhone login from another phone, you first need to make sure that the person you’re helping knows their iCloud email and password.

There are two ways of tracking someone else’s iPhone: through another iOS device; or through a web browser.

The easiest way of finding someone else’s iPhone is through another iOS device such as an iPad or another phone. But if you have a computer lying around, it’s also possible, and even more convenient for those who do not have access to another iOS device.

Using Find My iPhone to find another iPhone

In order to find another person’s iPhone, you must have the Find My app installed on your iOS device or Mac computer. Although this app comes pre-installed by default, it can also be deleted by the user.

If for some reason you cannot find the Find My app on the device iPhone you’re using, you can download it from the App Store.

1. Use the iOS Search function to launch the Find My app.
2. Click Me at the bottom of the screen, and tap “Help a Friend.”
   
3. Once you’re redirected to the Safari webpage, select “Use a different Apple ID.”
4. After that, type the person’s (the someone else) Apple ID on which you would like to locate the device.

Since the page knows you’re looking for a missing device, it will redirect you to a Find My iPhone without a two-factor authentication page. This means that you will be able to log into Find My iPhone without a two-factor verification code.

How to Find My iPhone from computer or Mac

If you want to locate an iPhone on a bigger screen or don’t have access to another iOS device, you can locate an iPhone or iPad through any computer or Android cell phone’s web browser. Here’s the quick and simple steps:

1. On your browser search box, type icloud.com/find.
2. The find/ at the end of the URL is very important. This will bypass the two-factor authentication code requirement.
3. Enter your iCoud login email and password.
4. After that, you will be sent directly to the All Devices page, where you’ll be able to locate, erase, or put the device on Lost Mode.

How to Find Someone Else's iPhone?

There are 2 methods to try:

Method 1: Find My iPhone

As mentioned, you can use the Find My app. It is the easiest method:

• Open the Find My application
• Click on the Me tab (on the bottom of the screen)
• Tap the Help a Friend section (on the very bottom again)
• Wait for iCloud.com to open
• Have your friend sign into their Apple account
• Ask them to scroll through their connected devices and find the missing iPhone
• Get them to click the Play Sound button if their handset is online. You will hear a loud beeping.

Your friend can also enable Lost Mode. It will help protect all the data on their phone, and add a custom message so that whoever finds it will know that it is lost. Once they find it again, they can enter their iCloud password to exit the mode.

They will be able to clear their data too. All they will have to do is click on the Erase iPhone button. This might be the way to go if their mobile has been stolen.

Method 2: Third-party Tools

If your friend has registered their lost iPhone on a tracking tool, they can log into it from your phone to find it.

FamiSafe is one of the most popular choices. It shows the missing device's location history, as well as its browser history.

I've faced this issued a couple of times and know the best solutions you can try. Let's get into it.

Solution 1: Check Your Internet Connection

The Find My app will only work if you are connected to the internet. Right now, you either may not be connected to the internet, or have an unstable connection. Moving closer to your router will solve this.

If you're dealing with a network error, enabling and then disabling Airplane Mode can help. To do this, simply swipe down to open your status bar, then click on the plane icon.

Just keep in mind that when Airplane Mode is running, you will stop connecting to cellular towers. So, calls and texts wouldn't come in.

Solution 2: Check Your Apple ID

Are you entering the correct Apple ID? There is no way you would see your connected devices if you've been entering the wrong one this whole time. Double-check to make sure of this.

Solution 3: Check Your SIM Card

You also need a cellular network connection for the tracking feature to work. If your SIM was inserted incorrectly, this could cause a problem.

Switch off your phone, take the SIM card out, and re-insert it. Remember to blow the tray to get rid of any dust and debris - there may be some that's blocking your SIM from being read.

If you're using an older iOS version, you may be dealing with a bug. Downloading the latest firmware will help.
