Change is brewing ben and jerrys flavor

WATERBURY, Vt. (WCAX) - Here’s the scoop-- Ben and Jerry’s latest ice cream concoction was dreamed up to help continue the company’s streak of activism and advance racial justice.

The Vermont ice cream maker just announced its latest flavor, “Change is Brewing.” It’s a combination of cold brew coffee ice cream, marshmallow swirls and fudge brownies.

The brand says it was created to help transform the nation’s approach to public safety to one that prioritizes community needs.

The new flavor was created to help promote a $10 billion piece of legislation proposed by Rep. Cori Bush that aims to reduce police violence against people with mental health problems and other health issues.

Change is Brewing will be available as a Limited Batch flavor at participating Ben & Jerry’s Scoop Shops and on store shelves. A portion of the proceeds will go to grassroots groups working to transform public safety in America.

Ben & Jerry’s has officially debuted their newest Limited Batch Flavor, “Change is Brewing.” The new flavor includes cold brew coffee ice cream paired with marshmallow swirls and the quintessential fudge brownies.

The ice cream highlights three Black-owned businesses by incorporating their products into the new flavor. BLK & Bold is a nationally distributed coffee company, providing the rich coffee base for “Change is Brewing.” Greyston Bakery, a longtime partner of Ben & Jerry’s, is a value-led supplier that follows an “open hiring” policy. The brand adds its fudge brownies to the mix. Laci Jordan, a Black multi-disciplinary artist is behind the imagery on the pint.

With “Change is Brewing,” Ben & Jerry’s continues its efforts as a company that champions racial justice. The ice cream house has joined more than 70 different organizations in supporting The People’s Response Act. Introduced by Congresswoman Cori Bush, the legislation aims to transform the system that has criminalized Black and Brown people nationwide into a place where it provides resources and helps communities of color flourish.

“Change is Brewing” is available in select retail stores across the U.S. Portions of the proceeds are expected to go to grassroots companies that are supporting the social transformation of America.

Ben & Jerry's newest ice cream flavor is proof that even our favorite desserts can have an impact on how we see the world. As part of its ongoing work to advance racial justice, the brand partnered with Black-owned businesses to create a new flavor called Change Is Brewing. The treat is a combo of cold-brew coffee ice cream, chewy fudge-brownie chunks, and gooey marshmallow swirls. More importantly, the deep, rich flavor of the cold-brew ice cream is made with coffee from BLK & Bold, a Black-owned coffee company, and the decadent fudge-brownie chunks are provided by Greyston Bakery, a brownie supplier with an "open hiring" policy that promotes workforce development and community wellness.

"I ended up focusing on what I thought that world would feel like . . . love, joy, freedom, Black liberation and the unapologetic space to exist without worry."

Even the packaging of the new ice cream was part of a meaningful collaboration with Black multidisciplinary artist Laci Jordan, who envisioned what a world where Black people feel safe and Black communities can thrive might look like. "I'm ELATED to announce that I had the honor of creating the visual art for @benandjerry new ice cream flavor 'Change is Brewing' [insert screaming here] 😩🙌🏾," she wrote on Instagram. "When starting the project I was asked to think about what a world free from injustice would look like. I'm not gonna lie . . . initially, it was hard; I didn't want to be literal or create art rooted in suffering. I ended up focusing on what I thought that world would feel like . . . love, joy, freedom, Black liberation and the unapologetic space to exist without worry . . . This art is as a love letter to my people and I hope it makes you feel loved today. 🤞🏾🌹"

The limited-edition flavor will be available in stores for $4-$6 per pint and at participating Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shops, and a portion of the proceeds for each sale will be given to "grassroots groups working to transform public safety in America." The brand has also joined several other organizations in supporting The People's Response Act, a legislation introduced by Congresswoman Cori Bush to transform the existing "system that disproportionately criminalizes Black and Brown people" and provide resources for communities of color to thrive. "It's time to divest from systems that criminalize Black communities and invest in a vision of public safety that allows everyone to breathe free," Ben & Jerry's said in a press release.
