What to BringThe Federal REAL-ID Act requires original or certified copies of certain documents to renew or obtain a driver’s license or state ID. Specific document requirements may vary depending on the individual. If You Already Have a Florida Driver’s License or IDRenew or Replace Your Driver’s License or IDCustomers may visit any of our six Orange County locations to renew or replace their driver’s license or ID, and some customers may renew or replace them online. Change Your Address or Name on Your Driver’s License or IDIf you change your address or name, you must update both your driver’s license or ID and vehicle registration within 30 days after changing your address or name. Suspensions, Holds & ViolationsVarious suspensions and violations, such as parking and toll violations, may place a hold on your driver’s license and registration. If You Are A New Florida ResidentNew Florida residents must obtain a valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days of establishing residency in order to legally drive in Florida. First Time DriversTo obtain a Learner’s License, customers must be at least 15-years-old and have an accompanying driver at least 21-years-old occupying the front passenger seat while the licensee is operating the vehicle. To obtain an Intermediate Driver’s License, customers must be at least 16-years-old and have held their Learner’s License for at least one year or until their 18th birthday with no traffic convictions and pass the Road Test. Commercial Driver’s LicensesThe Hazmat Knowledge Test, TSA Background Check and Livescan fingerprinting are required to obtain a first-time Hazmat Endorsement and for each subsequent renewal. How do I check my drivers license status in Florida?If you renewed online but have not received your new license yet, use the state's online status check website (mydmvportal.flhsmv.gov/home/en/publicweb/dlcheck) to see if/when your license was mailed. If you ordered online, it takes a minimum of 7 to 10 business days to receive – that's a full two weeks.
How do I find out if my Florida driver's license is suspended?In order to check your license status, all you need to do is go to the driver's license check webpage provided by the FLHSMV. From there, you will need to enter your driver's license number. If the results page reads, “valid,” your driver's license is not suspended and you maintain the right to drive.
Are Florida driver's licenses public record?Under Florida law, motor vehicle, driver license and vehicular crash record information are public information. The Driver Privacy Protection Act, 18 United States Code, Section 2721, keeps your personal information private by limiting those who can have it.
Why is my license suspended Florida?For a license to get suspended, it requires 12 or more points on the driving record in a year. The license will be suspended for 30 days if the driver accumulates 12 points, 3 months if it is 18 points in a year and a half, one year for 24 points in 3 years.
