How much do mclane truck drivers make

I worked at McLane for right at a year as a delivery driver. The management is terrible, people come and go consistently. Loads are always bad, pallets are constantly backwards (95% turned the wrong way) so lots of down stacking, went through a period of load lock shortages. Then even when they are available they still aren’t used properly and loads shift and pallets fall. Dispatch aka transportation managers always give you the run around as far as time off and scheduling for daily load times. Management is poor across board so nothing is smooth from warehouse to delivery drivers. Multiple HR changes while I worked there. After 11 months of working there I needed a small bit of time off due to a work injury, two weeks later sent to the doctor and told I wasn’t hurt and was maxed out on sick time and was given the run around about my actual injuries. Never once called in and always worked extra week in week out. All and all great pay if you realize how to work their system. If you are considering working for McLane as a delivery driver then know that YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO NEGOTIATE FOR EXTRA PAY IF YOU WORK EXTRA DAYS. They will try to pay you the minimum but you can negotiate up to 300-500 extra plus full route pay. Think long and hard before driving for Mclane.

I actually liked working for Mclane and liked many of the people I worked with. Then I had an unexpected life event change which made it impossible for me to continue with the long 20+ hour delivery runs. I was shocked when after all the "we don't want you to leave" they decided that even in a difficult climate of driver shortages it was a more sound business decision to have me leave rather than try to fit a highly experienced driver in somewhere. So here is what I learned from that experience- doesn't matter how long or how skilled you are the bottom line is Mclane could care less about their drivers. Now here's what you need to know, there are many driving jobs today with much less physical stress and fatigue at similar compensation. Most of the loads at Mclane cannot be completed legally under HOS and they know that! Your susceptible to injury great or small all the time because of the nature of the deliveries, the weather conditions, the poor loading and overall hours of operation. If you have children a working spouse your family life is going to suffer. It was always interesting to see drivers coming in from runs they looked like they were half dead. Very physical, poor management, good benefits

Not a typical driving job. You have to maneuver full size trailers into some of the smallest or sometimes busiest gas stations to unload. 95% of everything in the trailer is delivered on a 2 wheel dolly. Most of the routes start at night, which isn't bad, but there is no continuity to your schedules. You'll work days, nights, and both on one route, all in a week. They guarantee you $1000 power week, as long as you do everything the dispatchers ask. It's not uncommon for you to be off for 6 or 7 hours and be expected to get the rest of your reset in the sleeper. All the routes are created by some of the most moronic equal opportunity hires the company can find in temple TX, regardless of where you work. The trucks are not well maintained, not even slightly. Same with the trailers. Don't ever report getting injured either. You'll get written up for it. Regardless of what happened, they'll find a way to put blame on you. This company also does what they call "safety 5-0". They'll covertly spy on you throughout your route and then throw you under a bus if you're not doing everything exactly as you are suppose to. There is money to be made. If you don't mind never having home time, or only being off long enough to shower and sleep.

You will make money but lose everything else

All of the routes are starting to take between 16-24hrs and they want you to do this 4 times a week that's like 80hr work weeks the do not care about the drivers they keep extending your work days with more stops they can't keep drivers that's why they all ways have a temp agency working out there. You will go in when the sun goes down and be back home when the sun goes down. And your so called day off from a route you will be coming in in the afternoon like 3-8pm and that is suppose to be your day off what can you do with that as a day day off. I have done food service before this sorry company and we would work 4 nights a week but we werent doing 20+ hr routes every time. You would get off in the morning and be able to enjoy your day off with your family not at this sorry place you will have no life at all working here as a driver. Stay where your at or find some place better than this company.It is so bad that they offer a bonus for referrals and I have friends with cdl and I tell them to stay away from here I'm leaving soon my self I've been here for almost 2yrs. And I know of about 20+guys that have quit this sorry company.

Very Anti-Driver

● Work-life balance It has become a very anti-driver company with all the new technology installed in all of the new trucks geared towards safety but it has proven to be the exact opposite and no one in the upper ranks are willing to listen or do a dam thing about it. Very Disturbing. I would seriously recommend that anyone looking at Mclane for a delivery driver position consider this very carefully. ● Pay & benefits You work a lot harder than your paycheck reflects. ● Management Our centers GM and Transportation manager are great but as far as the company goes,You are nothing but a number, did you get that. Adapt or find a new job.... Very Sad ● Overall This really was a great place to work until we got new trucks. Those new trucks came with new technology that are geared towards safety and most of them are except the forward collision technology, no one will listen about what happens when you are cut off and the trucks slam on the brakes for you putting your life at risk, taking control from you and putting it in Artificial Intelligence control, this is no joke. Driver beware

If you drive here the most money you will make is when u start. with McLane adding DC's all those are going down. The starting pay is a lie. you make a 1k a week guarantee, But this is also a cap. if an other driver has less that week they will run him over you. so your first few years on call 5-7days a week. look to make about 52k that year. that is if they don't denied your guarantee over a missed call or some other think like a holiday or a black out. a black out is when they pull your days off with out much or any notice. also have fun doing yard work with no training if the yard haslaser calls off. but wait there is more, they have in ward facing cameras with have an AI that reports you for cell phone use, eating, seatbelts or any thing it wants too. so you can have a no violations or tickets when they fire you. one last thing is that all the management do not have class A cdl's so they really have no idea the real dangers and hardships of your job while telling you to do it safer and faster.

Long Hours But can Have Great Rewards

I work on the extra board first of all! You report for work as requested, which means at the drop of a hat, alot more than some. Going anywhere in NY including NYC/LI or Pennsylvania. You grab your equipment, paperwork etc & off you go. First stop Yeah! Gather handcart & scanner. Look & stack stop then bring into store. Repeat til finished including cooler & freezer compartment. Get paperwork signed, issue credits, gather totes & off you go to the next stop. A typical load is about 22 stop weighing about 27,000 lbs. avg per stop is 1000-2500 lbs sometimes about 500-700 lbs. all depends on time of year. Trucks have on-board electronic Logs, DriveCam Camera's(only records during events)

ProsPay is Much higher than OTR driving & has more hometime. Safety bonuses all the time to include food, gift cards, cash. Yearly safety banquet(includes raffle of gifts for safe drivers)

ConsLong runs up to 30+ hrs, Must offload freight by handcart most of time, Must pass special Isokinetic test to work here, Always being watched by company officals to make sure your not violating DOT Hours of Service

It was good and bad (Truck driver)

Just like any job you have positives and negatives. Its really hard work the pay is good but, I think you deserve more pay. You can be gone for long hours depending on seniority. The good was overall pay (feels like you should earn more) They will hire you out of school and the experience you get driving in the NE is really good. Its a great starting job for a cdl a. They do have favorites there. The hours suck. The job is hard. Management could improve. They do have decent benefits and 401k was great. The best part of the job by far was working with some good people and the training you get is good. The bad is the job itself. there's a lot of hard work. When you are out on the road, they wont do much to help. If your load collapses you have to 2 choices. Work through it or come back miss out on your loads pay and go out on that same load to deliver 24 hrs late (you would most likely miss your next load).

Hard Work, Good Money

If you are in decent shape, or want to get in decent shape, it's a pretty good job once you "pay your dues" working the extra board and get on a regular route. You don't get bored doing the job, you are always interacting with people, 99% are great and go out of their way to make your job is as easy as they can. You always have that one customer who is a pain but that's trucking. If you can deal with one aggravation a week, then you'll do good. The pay is good, the work is hard, the benefits are GREAT! You need Mad Trucking Skillz to get on and off some of the customer lots, including blind side backing across traffic, etc. But the trucks are day cabs with windows in the back so it's not too brutal. (Mclane puts you up in a hotel every night you are out, fuels the trucks at the yard, gives you all the equipment you need to do the job) People net on board computers, don't go over your 14 hours or you will be fired.

Your just another number on the computer screen

If you like being a robot this is a job for you. No family at work balance it's all about McLane. They call you from 8 p.m. 2 3:30 a.m. . When you're new they will give you 18 route but they won't tell you and you will be stranded for 3 to 4 hours waiting on somebody to drive the truck to your remaining stops so you can finish unloading, so you're going to be working about 16 to 18 hours. I don't care how bad you need a job stay away from this place because the 65k they show you won't make it, but they will honor the 1K per week and that's going to be about your average. But when you do the math on ours work and pay it's not worth it I warned you about this place no communication it's worse than the Game of Thrones a bunch of backstabbers.
