By default, WhatsApp will show a ‘Last Seen’ status of contacts, which lets you know when the user was last using WhatsApp. The latest versions of WhatsApp allow you to selectively hide the Last Seen status from specific people or contacts.
Previously, hide Last Seen and hide online status but the setting was broadly oriented, so that you either could turn the Last Seen status off for everyone, your contacts, or for nobody. Now you can be much more selective in who you don’t want seeing your status.
How to Hide Last Seen Status from Specific Contacts on WhatsApp
- Open the WhatsApp app if you haven’t done so already, then tap on the Settings button which looks like a gear at the bottom right corner
- Tap on “Account”
- Tap on “Privacy”
- Tap on “Last Seen”
- Choose “My Contacts Except…”
- Select the people/contacts you want to hide from seeing your Last Seen status
- Tap on “Done” when finished
Now those specific contacts you chose will no longer be able to see when you’re using WhatsApp, or when you last used WhatsApp. Kind of nice for some added privacy, right?
Don’t want your ex to know when you’re using WhatsApp? This is the setting for you. Don’t want a coworker or boss to know you’re chatting at work? This setting can prevent that. Don’t want a romantic interest to know you’re on WhatsApp all the time? There you go. You get the idea.
You can still choose to block everyone from seeing your Last Seen status of course too, that’s up to you, but more options are always a good thing, right?

- Step 1: Open your Whatsapp and tap Menu (three dots)
- Step 2: Next, choose “Settings”
- Step3: On the Settings page, go to “Account”
Note: It will show you options like privacy, security, two-step verification, change number, request account info, and delete my account. - Step 4: Choose the Privacy option from the list
- Step 5: Now tap on ‘Last Seen’ from the Privacy page
- Step6: After that, a pop up will appear, containing options like “Everyone”, “My contacts,” and “Nobody”

That’s it! Confirm your last seen status on Whatsapp from your friend’s phone whether it is visible or not. When you again want to show the last seen status to your contacts, change the settings to “My contacts”. Method 2: Use Airplane Mode to Hide Online Status on Whatsapp

- Go to the phone settings to turn off the data connection. Then turn on Flight mode before opening Whatsapp
- Now open Whatsapp and read any messages or reply to any messages that you wish to or send a new text to any of your contacts.
- Once everything is done, leave the application and close it from recent apps menu too and then turn off the Flight mode right after that
Now The message you sent to your contacts will be delivered. At the same time, they can’t see your online or typing status. Even your last seen won’t change in case your last seen status is publically visible.

Method 3: Hide Last Seen Status on Whatsapp GB
Here’s the opposite party! For using Whatsapp GB, you are not allowed to use the original Whatsapp application. So, if you use this version, follow the below steps on how to hide online status on WhatsApp.
