Why Is My Clear Slime Cloudy?

If you want crystal clear slime there are few things to consider.

First, when you’re making the slime be sure to mix all the ingredients slowly so you do not make air bubbles. Bubbles will cloud the slime so the less agitation you add when mixing, the clearer your slime will be.

And remember, since we want clear slime, we can’t use white glue.

When you play with the slime it will naturally “cloud”. You’ll still be able to see through it, but it won’t appear crystal clear. The picture above is how the slime looks after it is mixed up.

To get the slime back to it’s completely see through appearance, you’ll need to store it in a container and wait about 12-24 hours for all the bubbles to rise to the surface.

Once the bubbles have separated from the clear part of the slime, pull the bubble layer away from the clear layer. If you try to mix the bubble layer back into the slime it will just cloud it back up again so don’t do that! The picture above is after we let our slime sit for about a day.

Honestly, the bubbles in the clear slime are my kids favorite part about it. They love mixing them and trying to pop them all, so don’t worry too much about them!

How To Make Clear Slime Stretchy

One question we get asked a lot is how to make the slime extra stretchy!

After lots of failed attempts using lotion and other products, we’ve found the easiest way to make any slime recipe extra stretchy is two fold.

First, you want to be sure to add the water to the slime. The added moisture really makes the slime bouncy and stretchy so don’t leave it out.

Second, make sure you’re only adding the minimum amount of saline solution necessary to reach the consistency you want. Whenever you add too much contact lens solution to your slime it causes it to become stiff and to break, instead of stretching.

If you accidentally added too much contact solution already there are a couple of ways to try to fix it.

  1. Soak the slime in some hot water for 5-10 minutes. Once the time is up, rework the slime with your hands. If it’s become too runny, slowly add more contact solution until you reach the consistency you like.
  2. Try adding lotion to the slime. We’ve tried this approach a few times and have had moderate success with it. If your slime is only slightly too stiff, this option will work. If you’ve gone way overboard and your slime immediately breaks instead of stretching, we suggest you try option #1 or start over with a new batch.
