Passport Application + Renewal

JAMAICAN PASSPORT ELIGIBILITY

Jamaican passports are issued to Citizens of Jamaica this is in accordance with the Passport Act (1962) and Passport Regulations (1962 last amended December 22, 2013). All passport applicants are required to submit Proof of Citizenship and Identity to an authorized officer.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Each customer may be required to visit one of PICA’s local offices, online platform (adult only) or for overseas customers, a Jamaican Consulate/High Commission nearest to him/her, to submit an application.

PASSPORT RENEWAL FOR ADULTS AND MINORS

ADULT RENEWAL

  • Application formhere

  • Original birth certificate/adoption certificate or Jamaican citizenship certificate

  • Two (2) identical photographs (if you are not renewing in-person, one photo must be certified by the same official who certified the application)

    • Upon appointment, photos can be taken and notarized at the Consulate General ($15)

  • Proof of name change, if name has been changed (marriage certificate, deed poll, divorce decree, court order)

Cost: $110* - Cash, credit/debit/money order accepted.

*There is a $190 fee for passports that are lost or being renewed with 12+ months validity

MINOR RENEWAL

  • Application form here

  • Original passport (current or expired)

  • Original birth certificate/adoption certificate or Jamaican citizenship certificate

  • Two (2) identical photographs (if you are not renewing in-person, one photo must be certified by the same official who certified the application)

  • Parent(s) identification (passport, driver’s license or other state issued ID)

  • Legal guardians are required to submit a court order or notarized letter of consent from the parents(s) along with their notarized ID

Renewal applications may be mailed to:

  • Any Jamaican High Commission/Consulate nearest to the applicant

  • Local applications should be mailed to 25 Constant Spring Road, Kingston 10. Please contact the relevant mission/consulate for further information on the mailing process

  • The application form may be completed online by going to the following page (Jamaican Application form)

  • You are required to print your application and take it to a certifying official, after which you will present your application with the required documents to the office that is most convenient to you

ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE FULLY COMPLETED BEFORE YOU APPEAR FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT.

1. FIRST TIME APPLICATIONS

 ADULTS

Requirements:

  • Original Jamaican Birth Certificate; or National Birth Certificate and Jamaican Certificate of Citizenship; or National Birth Certificate and Adoption Register
  • Marriage Certificate or Divorce Judgement (Decree Absolute), for married women, if the application is being made in their married name
  • Valid Government-issued photographic ID such as the passport from the country of citizenship, driver’s licence, identification indicating permanent residency or Jamaican electoral ID
  • A Deed Poll registered at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, UK Deed Poll Service (www.deedpoll.org.uk), the Registrar General’s Department in Jamaica or other relevant authority in the country of residence must be submitted where there has been a change of name
  • Two (2) colour passport size photographs, one (1) of which, along with Section G of the passport application form, should be certified by one of the following persons:
  • (a) Notary Public or Consular Officer 
  • (b) Medical Practitioner
  • (c) Solicitor/Lawyer
  • (d) Minister of Religion authorised to perform marriages
  • (e) Head Teacher
  • (f) Dentist
  • (g) Bank Manager

MINORS

 MUST APPEAR IN PERSON WITH PARENT (S) OR LEGAL GUARDIAN, BY APPOINTMENT

Requirements:

  • Original Jamaican Birth Certificate; or National Birth Certificate and Jamaican Certificate of Citizenship; or National Birth Certificate and Adoption Register
  • Parent's valid Government-issued photographic ID such as the passport from the country of citizenship, driver’s licence, identification indicating permanent residency or Jamaican electoral ID
  • Legal Guardians are required to submit a care order or notarised letter of consent from the parent as well as the parent's ID (NB: The parent signing must be a Jamaican citizen)
  • A Deed Poll registered at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, UK Deed Poll Service (www.deedpoll.org.uk), the Registrar General’s Department in Jamaica or other relevant authority in the country of residence must be submitted where there has been a change of name
  • Two (2) colour passport size photographs, one (1) of which, along with Section G of the passport application form, should be certified by one of the following persons:
  • (a) Notary Public or Consular Officer 
  • (b) Medical Practitioner
  • (c) Solicitor/Lawyer
  • (d) Minister of Religion authorised to perform marriages
  • (e) Head Teacher
  • (f) Dentist
  • (g) Bank Manager

All applicants must apply in person either at the High Commission or the Jamaican Consulate (Birmingham). Applications can also be submitted at Consular Surgeries whenever they are held in the UK.

2. RENEWAL

ADULTS

Requirements:

  • Original passport (current or expired)
  • Original Jamaican Birth Certificate; or National Birth Certificate and Jamaican Certificate of Citizenship; or National Birth Certificate and Adoption Register
  • Two (2) colour passport size photographs; one (1) of which (including mailed-in-applications), along with Section G of the passport application form, should be certified by one of the following persons:
  • (a) Notary Public or Consular Officer 
  • (b) Medical Practitioner
  • (c) Solicitor/Lawyer
  • (d) Minister of Religion authorised to perform marriages
  • (e) Head Teacher
  • (f) Dentist
  • (g) Bank Manager
  • Persons visiting the High Commission, Consulate (Birmingham) or Consular Surgeries must have Forms certified by a Consular Officer or the Honorary Consul
  • A Deed Poll registered at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, UK Deed Poll Service (www.deedpoll.org.uk), the Registrar General’s Department in Jamaica or other relevant authority in the country of residence must be submitted where there has been a change of name
  • Married women must submit a Marriage Certificate with the application if they are using their married name. Women who are divorced and who wish to use their married name should submit their divorce judgement (Decree Absolute)
  • All persons who have been married are required to complete Section B of the Passport Application Form and select marital status other than 'single'.

 MINORS

  • Original Jamaican Birth Certificate; or National Birth Certificate and Jamaican Certificate of Citizenship; or National Birth Certificate and Adoption Register
  • A Deed Poll registered at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, UK Deed Poll Service (www.deedpoll.org.uk), the Registrar General’s Department in Jamaica or other relevant authority in the country of residence must be submitted where there has been a change of name
  • Two (2) colour passport size photographs; one (1) of which, along with Section G of the passport application form, should be certified by one of the following persons:
  • (a) Notary Public or Consular Officer 
  • (b) Medical Practitioner
  • (c) Solicitor/Lawyer
  • (d) Minister of Religion authorised to perform marriages
  • (e) Head Teacher
  • (f) Dentist
  • (g) Bank Manager
  • Parent's valid Government-issued ID such as the passport from the country of citizenship, driver’s licence, identification indicating permanent residency or Jamaican electoral ID

PERSONAL APPEARANCE

Children three years (3) and under are not required to appear in person. However, all first time applicants must appear in person to submit their applications.

3. MAIL-IN APPLICATIONS

ALL APPLICANTS ARE REQUIRED TO ENCLOSE A SELF-ADDRESSED REGISTERED ENVELOPE ALONG WITH YOUR APPLICATION FOR THE RETURN OF ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS.

Passport renewal for adults are accepted via post. 

Requirements:

  • Completed passport application Form and photograph to be signed and completed by one of the following:
  • (a) Notary Public or Consular Officer 
  • (b) Medical Practitioner
  • (c) Solicitor/Lawyer
  • (d) Minister of Religion authorised to perform marriages
  • (e) Head Teacher
  • (f) Dentist
  • (g) Bank Manager
  • No Cash or  Postal Orders or Personal Cheques should be sent through the post with mailed-in applications.  All payments should be made via direct bank transfer to the Jamaican High Commission. If your application is returned then an additional £7 will be requested to facilitate processing/mailing fees. 

    Qualified applications/transactions will be assigned a reference number. This reference number MUST be used in making the required bank payment. Failure to include the reference number will result in undue delays in the processing of your application/transaction.

  • Applications submitted by post should be duly signed. The signature of the applicant should be WITHIN the boundaries of the rectangular box at top of page two (2). Signature must not touch borders of box
  • Section E should be signed and dated by the applicant and the appropriate box ticked

5. PROCESSING TIME

Passport Applications are processed by the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) in Jamaica. Please allow, therefore, MINIMUN of Ninety (90) day for this process to be completed and the passport(s) returned to the High Commission in London. For mailed-in applications, an additional two (2) to three (3) weeks should be allowed.

Can I renew my Jamaican passport online in Jamaica?

ALL PASSPORTS ISSUED TO AN ADULT AFTER SEPTEMBER 2001 MAY BE RENEWED VIA THE ONLINE PROCESS AT www.pica.gov.jm. IF ALL YOUR INFORMATION REMAINS THE SAME AS IN THE PASSPORT YOU ARE RENEWING. THIS PROCESS IS SAFE AND QUICKER THAN THROUGH THE CONSULATE.

How much does it cost to renew an expired Jamaican passport?

Cost for renewal of Passport for adult : USD $120.

Can I renew my passport completely online?

Yes. You can renew both passport books and cards online. Please note if you have a passport book and want a passport card only, OR if you have a passport card and want a passport book only, you cannot renew online.
