On Wednesday (May 26th), Instagram announced that its users will now have the option to hide their like counts. In a Twitter statement, they said: “Starting today, you’ll have more options when it comes to like counts on Instagram. Now you can hide the number of likes people see on your posts. “You can also hide the number of likes you see on other people’s posts. Or you can keep things as they are – whatever works for you,” they added. As Instagram is owned by Facebook, the feature is also being rolled out on Facebook too. Today, we’re announcing that everyone on Instagram and Facebook will now have the option to hide their public like counts, so they can decide what works for them,” they said. Facebook has been running tests to remove likes in many countries since 2019, but the feature will now be rolled out globally. “We tested hiding like counts to see if it might depressurize people’s experience on Instagram. What we heard from people and experts was that not seeing like counts was beneficial for some and annoying to others, particularly because people use like counts to get a sense of what’s trending or popular, so we’re giving you the choice,” they added. How to hide likes on FacebookIn the blog post, Facebook revealed that you can turn off likes in the new ‘Posts’ section which is in the Settings.
