How to stop someone from commenting on your facebook posts

  • You can turn off comments on a Facebook post by clicking or tapping the three dots in the top-right corner of that post.
  • To turn off comments, the Facebook post's visibility needs to be set to "Public."
  • You can also archive any post, which will turn off comments and remove it from your Facebook feed.

Facebook is built around sharing moments from your life and letting others comment on them. But if you've got a lot of friends or followers, those comments can become overwhelming.

That's why Facebook lets you customize who can comment on your posts, and even lets you turn off comments altogether.

How to turn off comments on a Facebook post

You can turn off comments using both the Facebook website and mobile app.

Just note that to change who can comment on a post, that post's visibility needs to be "Public." If it's set to "Private" or "Friends," you can't turn off comments.

1. Open Facebook and head to the post that you want to turn comments off for.

2. Click or tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the post.

3. Select the Who can comment on this post? option.

4. You'll have a few options to choose from. To turn off comments, select Profiles and Pages you mention.

Use the third option that limits commenting to people you’ve mentioned. Facebook; William Antonelli/Insider

This will make it so no one can comment unless you've directly @ mentioned them in the post — if you haven't mentioned anyone, no one can comment. This does mean though that if you have mentioned someone, they'll still be able to comment. There isn't any way to stop them from commenting without editing the post or removing it.

Also remember that this won't delete any comments. All the existing comments will stay, and anyone viewing the post can still read them. You'll have to delete the comments individually if you want to hide them.

If you don't want anyone to comment or see the post, you can delete it or archive it. Archiving a post fully turns off the comments, hides it from your profile, and prevents others from viewing it. But if you want, you can still find it by heading to your profile's private Archive.

Social media has revolutionized the way consumers can interact with a brand. It gives customers a direct medium to share ideas, feedback & even criticism.

Brands can leverage these conversations to create a community & develop brand loyalty.

So one might ask why you need to turn off comments on Facebook?

Sadly, the comment section of Facebook posts is filled with trolls, haters, or spammers, which can diminish the message shared in the post.

Your brands' Facebook page is a public space, and it's your responsibility to keep it clean.

If your comment section is filled with racist, sexist, or homophobic remarks, hate speech and feature inappropriate photo content, your comment section needs to be moderated.

If you're dealing with such comments on a scale, things can quickly get overwhelming. And social media managers resort to the option of disabling comments on the Facebook post.
Although it is easy to turn off comments on Facebook posts in groups, doing it for page posts and ads can be tricky.

Facebook does not offer any options to disable comments on your business Facebook page posts and ad posts.

There are two workarounds if you want to turn off comments on your Facebook page posts and ads. Let's take a look at both of them.
