Never bitter or sharp, Maker's Mark is made with soft red winter wheat, instead of the usual rye, for a one-of-a-kind, full-flavored bourbon that's easy to drink. To ensure consistency, we rotate every barrel by hand and age our bourbon to taste, not time. Each and every bottle of Maker's is still hand-dipped in our signature red wax at our distillery in Loretto, Ky., just like Bill, Sr., would have wanted.

Character isn’t made by machine. Maker’s Mark began with one man’s quest to create a bourbon that he enjoyed drinking. That sounds hardly revolutionary today, but in 1954 it disrupted an industry. Bill Samuels, Sr.’s pursuit began with his family’s trusted, 170-year-old recipe – the one he promptly set on fire, of course. Handmade. The Maker’s Mark way.

Created by Bill Samuels, Sr. to be a bourbon that he would enjoy drinking himself, Maker’s Mark is smooth and approachable with an easy finish – a true contrast to hot, harsh whiskies that “blow your ears off,” and a downright revolutionary idea at the time. Maker’s Mark is made slowly in small batches, in our National Historic Landmark distillery in Loretto, Kentucky. While it makes any cocktail better, a lot of folks still prefer it on its own, or over ice with a splash of water.

Tasting Notes

NOSE: Buttered corn-on-the-cob, vanilla and cinnamon.

PALATE: Soft and generous on the palate, pralines and cream, apricot, and burnt orange peel.

FINISH: Toasted oak and spice.
