Onan 4000 generator oil filter

Why no oil filter on my Onan generator

My onan generator on my 2008 29' Holiday Rambler Augusta gave me a 'service fault' code. Called Cummings Columbus, Oh cause I couldn't find what size oil filter to order. After they did much checking, I was informed mine did not have a oil filter. Do I treat this generator any different on my part as far as upkeep. And is there any reason this one did not have an oil filter. Is there any benefit to not having an oil filter??

Never heard of that one. Do you have an Onan model number or serial number? Is it a MicroQuiet 4000?
Looking on page 33 of this manual, it is below and to the left of your oil fill and dipstick.

The antique Onans did not have an oil filter . I would have thought anything made in the last 30 years would have one. The advantage to no oil filter is not having to buy one for servicing . The down side is the oil has to be changed more often. It might have a fine screen that can be removed and cleaned when servicing.

I'm pretty sure my new Micro 4000 does not have one.

Not unusual. Chances are your lawnmower doesn't have one either and it likely sees more run hours than your generator.
What does it say in your manual in regards to oil changes?
Follow that and the generator will outlast you. (If you're over 45 that is).

Model #4KYFA26100L and serial #SN D070051689. Onan 4000. When salesman did run through, he advised first owner lived in Canada and you held down start button and waited for click, as this was to warm generator so would start in cold weather conditions. Thanks so very much.

It took Cummins Svc department quite a while to find that mine did not have an oil filter. It seemed to surprise them also. Was going to take to their shop in Columbus Oh, did a dry run in car to their location and nothing but construction, bumper to bumper, stop & go for miles. So I decided to wait and get generator looked at when I get back to Louisiana. Do you think this gen could be that old?? THANKS so very much

My lawnmower doesn't have one either and I never thought about that. My manual says every 150 hours and if dust, hot more often or once yearly. And yes this generator will for sure out last me. I am 'old as dirt',(79) my grand kids like to tell me.

These gens don't hold much oil just change it before putting away for the winter filter or no filter especially if you don't run it during the winter. If you do run it during the winter see what the manual says about the cold weather running.

My first RV had the Onan Micro 4000...no oil filter. I sold the van and the genset had over 800hours. It WAS difficult to fill the oil. It was in a cramped spot under the bed at the rear bumper but it worked well.

Just change every 100 he not the 150 in book much safer very easy plug on bottom holds abt 1 1\2 get oh don't get hosed by camp w charge way tomuch

Looks like you have a MicroQuiet 4000 generator. They are a small single cylinder engine and it does not have an oil filter. It is not an antique . It uses an engine similar to the ones used on lawnmowers , which do not have an oil filter. Should last many thousands of hours with proper maintenance .

Volkswagen Beetle engines didn�t have oil filters either, just a screen and if you are lucky, a magnetic drain plug. Change the oil often and don�t worry about it.

The 4000 watt models new or old do not have a filter the bigger wattage ones do
