Whirlpool refrigerator wrs588fihz00 ice maker not working

Fridge model is WRS588FIHZ00. Model No. on the side of the ice maker is W10771736A. It's an in-door ice maker.

  1. I initially thought it stopped making ice due to the filter needing to be changed, so I changed it. The water dispenser still works fine, so I guess I changed it correctly.

  2. I reset the filter setting on the front panel.

  3. I turned the ice maker on and off with the on/off switch on the ice maker itself to see if it would reset.

  4. I changed the setting on the front panel to fast ice to see if that would do anything. Nope. Nothing.

  5. I took the ice maker apart to see if the water line was iced up. It had a little bit of ice in the line, but not enough to clog it. I cleared that out with a hair dryer just in case.

  6. There is ice in the tray BTW. It won't dump, though.

  7. I cut the power (circuit breaker) to the fridge, then turned it back on after a few minutes to see if it would reset. No.

Is there a reset button somewhere on this ice maker? I can't find it. That's about the only other thing I know of to try.

Light Would Not Go On In The Refrigerator

First I removed the old lightbulb from the socket and replaced it with a new one to confirm that the bulb was not the problem. I then pryed the socket out with a flat-head screwdriver. I could tell that the socket was anchored in its hole with clips so it was relatively easy to pry it out. Once the socket was out, I disconnected the lead wires and ordered a replacement socket kit from Partselect. When the new one arrived, I reconnected the lead wires to it, snapped it back into its hole, screwed in a new lightbulb, and presto!! The light was back on with no further problem. Thank you, Partselect!! A $15.00 part saved me what probably would have been at least a $100. service call and heaven knows what the technician would have told me I needed!!!

while closing the door, the light switch fouled, resulting in the switch breaking

I used a flat screwdriver and released the lock tab on the bottom of the light switch, and pried the switch out, being careful to not damage the plastic around the mounting place of the switch, unplugged wiring from old switch, plugged in the new one and pushed the new switch into place. Job finished light switch now working.

How do you reset a whirlpool ice maker?

The reset button is usually located at the bottom of the ice maker unit or in some cases at the top or on the bottom of the ice tray. Once located, press the button down for a few seconds until you hear a beep sound. Once you hear the beep sound, let go of the button. Once reset, check if the problem has been solved.

Why isn't my ice maker working on my Whirlpool refrigerator?

First, make sure your water filter is up to date to help avoid clogs that reduce water flow. Next, double check that the water line behind the refrigerator isn't kinked or twisted. Lastly, use a leveler to ensure that your refrigerator and ice maker are level so water distributes evenly throughout the ice tray.

Why is ice not coming out of my ice maker?

Ice Clumps in the Bin One of the most common – and innocent – causes of an ice maker that won't dispense ice is that an ice clump has formed inside. In order to drop the ice cubes from the mold, heat is released to lightly melt them.

How do I manually reset my ice maker?

Unplug the machine and wait 10 seconds. Plug the machine back in and press the ON button. You should see a blue light appear, letting you know that the machine has been reset.
