This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the third generation (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 & also 2016 in Canada) Dodge Durango SUV in changing a burnt out brake, rear turn signal, side marker, parking light or reverse bulb in the tail light housings.

Owners of other Chrysler, Dodge and RAM vehicles such as the Town & Country, 300, 200, Avenger, Charger, Journey, Dart, Challenger, Grand Caravan, and Ram C/V Tradesman minivan may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

Remove 2nd Fastener
This 2014 Durango is equipped with LED brake, rear turn signal and side marker lights, but I'll detail the process for replacing those bulbs in a 2011, 2012 or 2013 model below.

Open the tailgate door and move to the side of the SUV with the burnt out tail light bulb.

Locate the two plastic pop rivet fasteners along the inner edge of the housing.

Gently pry out the center piece of the plastic pop rivet fastener with a flathead screwdriver.

Then pry out the base of the fastener to remove it.

Repeat the process for the 2nd fastener. Set the two fasteners aside in a safe place.

Reverse Bulb - Tailgate Door
The tail light is still held in place by two metal pegs or "spikes" on the back side of the housing.

Gently pull the tail light housing off the rear corner of the vehicle.

If you have trouble removing the tail light assembly, try gently prying along the outer edge with a plastic tool or a flathead screwdriver covered with a micro fiber cloth.

(The next few steps are not pictured on this page.)

Rotate the base of the bulb socket 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove it from the housing.

Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket and push in a new one.

The replacement bulb part numbers again are as follows: Brake # 3057, Rear Turn Signal # 3057 and Side Marker / Parking Light # 194.

Re-insert the bulb socket in to the housing and rotate it 1/4 turn clockwise to secure it in place.

Repeat the process for any of the bulbs.

Push the tail light housing back in to place.

Re-insert the two pop rivets and push down the center piece to secure them in place.

Reverse Bulb Socket
The reverse light bulb is located in a separate housing attached to the tailgate door.

Open the tailgate door and locate the large plastic panel on the underside.

Place a large flathead screwdriver or a plastic automotive pry bar tool in between the panel and the tailgate door.

Gently pry off the tailgate panel to disengage the pop rivet friction fasteners.

Once you have the tailgate panel partially removed, you'll be able to see the grey plastic reverse bulb socket.
