Bath and body japanese cherry blossom perfume

There are many superb Orientals like Shalimar, Emeraude, Samsara and Mitsuoko that are timeless and beloved perfumes. While Japanese Cherry Blossom by Bath and Body Works are nowhere near the level of sophistication of Shalimar, this is no less an Oriental. The fragrance might not last very long, and the projection and sillage is poor, but it's like a little breeze when you spray it, a light gust of wind from the Orient, blowing cooly on cherry blossom. In Japan, the cherry blossom is the equivalent to the rose in England; it's their signature flower. These fragrant flowers grow on trees caressed by winds and are found even in the gardens of the Imperial Palace. Everywhere in Japan you see the pink and white cherry blossoms remindng you where you are: in the Far East. This fragrance is subtle but it takes you to Japan for at least a couple of minutes. I found it sweet and comfortng, like drinking green tea under a cherry blossom and under a delicious breeze.

NOTES IN JAPANESE CHERRY BLOSSOM

Head Notes: Plum Pear Apple

Heart Notes: Mimosa Tuberose Lily Rose Japanese Cherry Blossom

Base Notes: Sandalwood, Amber, Patchouli Cinammon Himalayan Cedar Musk Vanilla Oakmoss

It sounds like a richly layered aroma but there is such a thin lightness that does not make it as smoky and dark as more popular classic Orientals. This is such a sweet young thing, like a little Japanese school girl putting on a fragrance that smells just like the cherry blossoms she passes by on her way to school every day. That made me think that this fragrance can even be worn by children, by young girls, and it would be a far more sophisticated alternative than the sugary synthetic floral fruity perfumes sold by Disney in their Princess line. This is rather an eau de toilette and too effervescent and light for a concentrated perfume. It can also serve as air freshner spray for your house: for the bathroom, the living room, the den. The sweetness is heady and comes from the fruits in the top notes: plum, pear and apple. I absolutely love these fruits and was beyond happy to discover that it had no citrus! The bergamot that is omnipresent in most fragrances is not here! And that is exactly what I wanted. No citrus! No oranges, lemons lime or grapefruit! There is no greeness to this fragrance either. Green notes, if any, are minimal and light. The heart of the fragrance has a subdued mimosa, lily, rose and tuberose. The real star of the fragrance, hence it's name, is the Japanese cherry blossom. This is in the depth of the fragrance and what you mostly get. It's like smelling cherry blossoms in a garden in Japan. It's 100 percent natural and accurate. The cherry blososms take over and the base notes are so distant. I didn't get any woods (sandalwood and cedar) amber, patchouli musk or oakmoss. Only two base notes stand out: vanilla and cinammon. For whatever reason, my nose and skin can pick up on base notes almost immediately and I was able to identify the cinnamon and vanilla. It totally sweetens the fragrance adding yet another saccharine layer already provided by the fruits in the head notes. Musk? What musk? If they had really layed on the musk and the woods it would have turned the fragrance into an ORIENTAL CHYPRE and then and only then would it compare to the Shalimar that is so beloved in the all-inclusive world of perfumery. There is no way this stuff has patchouli even though it's listed in the base notes. Patchouli, more of it, would have given the fragrance soem incense and smoke of which this has none. Ultimately, the sweetness of this aroma, the flowers and fruits make Japanese Cherry Blossom what is now being termed as a FLORIENTAL. It's more about the flowers than the woody notes. But this is very nice. Don't overlook this fragrance when going scent-shopping. It's very affordable at any Bath and Body Work store, and online on Amazon.com. It has a practical purpose beyond just a perfume you wear. It's great air freshner or car freshner. As perfume, it's really more a skin scent as it clings to your skin closely and wears off rather quickly, suitably worn as an after-you've-taken-a-shower skin freshner or eau de toilette. This bottle is so obviously asking to be kept in the bathroom behind that mirror you open by the marble counter. For me this is the perfume version of green tea. So calming and soothing and delicious. I spray it over the bedding and pillows of my bed to help me to go to sleep. I liek to spray it in my house as well to walk around in the aroma, especially after having been to Hong Kong and wanted to take the fragrance of the Orient back home to Manhattan with me. Taking this with me is like bringing Japan into my home.

I was enchanted with Japanese Cherry Blossom. It's a lovely floral from the Orient, and although simple, airy and even ephemeral, it just smells so good that you are transported, if for a little while, to Japan where the grow cherry blossoms are there to welcome you, comfort you, and give you pleasure every time.
