Interesting idea. However, if one were to weight a bat like that, it would feel very light to swing. Not sure how that would fix any swing problems though. "The training bat you can actually hit with." I have an overload trainer from Probats that I actually hit with.

    See ball, hit ball.

I'd like to know some thoughts on this bat as well. Saw the advertisement at the top of the blogs the other day.

I have a 13 yr old that has used a drop 5 for the last 2 seasons
and I was looking for something to help him with making the
adjustment to a drop 3 next season

Using an end-weighted bat has helped fix some flaws in my swing. I suppose a balanced bat could fix a different set of flaws.

Probably just depends on the hitter. I know if I were to use this thing I'd probably go back to using an armsy swing.

Wouldn't this be the same as hitting foam balls with a Bratt Bat? Except you can hit regular balls with this?

I know that this is an old thread, but I thought that I would reply to it rather than create a new one. I bought my 11 y/o son a 30" CamWood bat, but I think that because the bat is heavier than he is used to it has taught him to move his hands too early. Now it seems like his hands are either leaking forward during the stride or he's found a way to lunge predominately with his hands. Of course, I need to get some video to confirm, but I just thought I'd mention this and see if anyone else encountered a similar issue.

And, then I found this thread. Anyone have a good experience with this kind of training bat?

I bought one. My older one used it quite a bit. The younger now picks up every now and then. I don't know about all the weights we got the 33-inch HS bat, but my kids were older. One thing I think is with fat knob, your kind might get a feel for good release as in the knob of the bat passing under both wrists in the follow through. Might seem silly but you'd be surprised how many kids are either pushing the bat or pulling the knob and not turning the bat.

I wouldn't overdo it just like any tool, it could just as easily be wasted if not used correctly or damaging if you use it to enforce a bad habit.

Thanks. Would you say the potential benefits outweigh the potential risks?

Thinking about getting my daughter one of these. The guys at Camwood Bats are good guys and are members here and elsewhere.

More than likely yes. I was just a tool for working out for my kid. Adding some muscle to the workout. We didn't use it in live BP that much. Once in a while just to take 5-6 warmup swings and switch back to normal wood. When they took a lot of swings it was usually the tee.

Like I said if you make sure the knob travels under the wrists you are getting some good value there. In a good swing the front elbow works up above the baseball. You'll see a lot of youth swings where the front elbow stays down and goes around the body. Good chance they could be pushing the bat at that point.

My last two seasons of majors, the 11 year old year every single kid on the team hit a homer (nothing to do with Camwood), and in year two 10 of the 12. I was really bummed for the one kid because he's a really fast athletic kid, but just didn't really swing it, like we wanted him to. He was not into all the batting stuff we did, and he was a good slapper for us as well as a CF. At that age, he didn't have any release. Now granted he wasn't really comfortable trying any of the stuff, but just take all that way, some kids mash without all that because they do many other things well.

My kid who is 9 years old completed the All American Package with CamWood. Great tool. Came with 2 training bats and the 30 day hitting outline with drills.

They say it will increase your exit velo by 5-10 mph. So, this should be easy to verify. Buy one and if it gains 5-10mph, let us know. If it doesn't, let us know and get a refund.

What is the CamWood 30 day program?

CamWood All-American 30 Day Program This program is a daily trainer that tells you EXACTLY what drills to do and EXACTLY how many swings to take each day for the next 30 days... The purpose of this program is to teach the proper swing mechanics of staying inside the ball..

Which CamWood Bat do I need?

What size bat should I buy? We recommend that you buy the same length bat that you swing in-game. If you swing a 28in drop 10 in-game, we recommend the Youth 28in Trainer. If you swing a 32in drop 3 in-game, we recommend the Adult 32in Trainer.

Does the CamWood Bat work?

The Camwood Bat is perfectly balanced to strengthen the forearms and create a better hand path to the ball, thus improving bat speed and power.
