Water travels through 6 stages of filtration
- In Stage 1, water flows through a FLUORIDE REMOVAL media containing Fluoride Charcoal Granulated Activated Carbon (GAC). This media is specifically designed to have a high affinity for Fluoride, Lead and Arsenic. It removes metals through a mixture of adsorption and chemical reaction with the media; therefore, the elimination is not reliant on ion exchange. It has a uniform particle size, is physically stable and can be used over a wide pH range. Capacity: 4500 ppm Fluoride (Avg. 1000 to 1500 Gallons). As high as 11000 ppm F+ with effluent levels below 0.2 ppm from 10 ppm F+ feed.
- In stage 2, and 6 water water flows through pre and post one - micron filter pads (1 micron equals 1/25,000th of an inch), which remove suspended particles such as silt, sediment, cyst (Giardia, Cryptosporidium), sand, rust, dirt, and other un-dissolved matter.
- In stages 3 and 4, water flows through a bed of media made of a special high-purity alloy blend of two dissimilar metals - copper and zinc (KDF-55D, and KDF-85D .) What I love about this filter, is that those are not just marketing claims, and the performance is backed up with many NSF standards, four to be exact.
The filter is certified to NSF standards 42, 53, 58, and 401. Each of those represents different aspects of contaminants.
For example, 42 standard proves that the filter is capable of removing chlorine and improving taste.
Because you really want a filter that removes fluoride, you should be looking at NSF standard 58, which Aquasana also holds.
NSF 58 is issued to filters that remove fluoride, and other contaminants highlighted by EPA list.

Epic Pure filter is one of my favorites. It comes with very friendly price point, and at the same time offers great performance with more than 97% of fluoride removal aside of other contaminants. Quality for price, the Epic Pure is the cheapest filter pitcher on the market. At the cost of just .19¢ per gallon of fresh water, getting a good water filter is an investment for your health.
It saves your family money but also lessens the impact of single-use plastic. One issue that reviewers had was that you will need to fill the filter to at most, 1” below the top where it connects to the reservoir.
Any higher and there will still be water in the reservoir, and when you pour it, the unfiltered water may mix in with the filtered water. So, be mindful of that.
When looking at reverse osmosis systems that have 2+ year filter life, I’m actually happy to know that these Epic Pure’s filters are recyclable.
