How to check history of location on iphone

• Apple's Location Services feature enables the company and third-party apps to use your location in order to provide services like transit directions and restaurant recommendations among many others.

Many of the apps and services you use on a daily basis are probably using your location data in one way or another — whether it's to provide transit directions or to serve up recommendations for nearby points of interest. 

On the iPhone, you can view a list of each individual location that's been logged through Location Services, the feature that enables Apple and third-party apps to gather location data to provide services like those mentioned above. Apple determines your device's approximate location through GPS and Bluetooth signals as well as crowd-sourced Wi-Fi hotspots and cell tower locations. 

This list of places, called Significant Locations, is encrypted end-to-end and cannot be read by Apple. You can also turn it off in the iPhone's Settings menu.

Here's a look at how to view and edit the list of locations tracked through Location Services. 

Choose 'Privacy.'

Tap 'Location Services.'

Press the 'Significant Locations' option.

After authenticating with your password or Face ID, you'll see a list of cities and towns you've recently visited.

Tap one of the cities to view a map showing all of the locations within that city that you've recently visited.

You can also tap the "Edit" button in the top right corner of the screen to erase individual locations from this list. 

If you want to delete your entire location history, go back to the 'Significant Locations' list, scroll down to the bottom of the list, and press 'Clear History.'

To turn off 'Significant Locations,' toggle the slider at the top of the 'Significant Locations' list.

The next time you need to remember exactly where you've been on a map, consult your iPhone.

It's very typical for a smartphone to track your location these days, and it's something the iPhone has been doing for years. But you may not know that your iPhone keeps an extremely detailed log of where you've been on a map, including time stamps for when you come and go.

Here's how to find the log — and if you feel so inclined, delete it.

Open the Settings app on your iPhone and tap on "Privacy."

Then tap on Location Services.

You'll see the location tracking permissions for every app you have installed.

Now things start to get interesting.

Under History, you'll see your iPhone's GPS location history. If you've traveled between multiple cities, the location logs will be broken up into different lists.

Tap on a city's name to see a map view of where your iPhone has been. If you have certain locations labeled already, their respective names will be displayed instead of the street name.

Apple calls this log your "frequent" locations, but places you've visited only once are displayed as well.

If you tap on a specific location, you can see the time stamps of when you've arrived to and left that location.

Apple says that this location data is "kept solely on your device and won't be sent to Apple without your consent. It will be used to provide you with personalized services, such as predictive traffic routing."

To delete your location history off your device, tap Clear History. You can also turn off the feature by un-checking the toggle next to Frequent Locations.
