Anyone who has a set of AirPods has certainly found themselves scratching their heads in the middle of a room or on the street, unsure where exactly their AirPods are.

While you’re anxious about how to find lost AirPods, I’ll also show you how to track them quickly, whether they’re offline or dead, in the AirPod case or out of it, or, worst of all, completely offline and not even in Bluetooth range.

There are two different methods you can try to find your solution.

The two easiest methods to find AirPods when dead or offline are

1. Using Apple’s Find My App.
2. Using iCloud.

Method 1: Using Apple’s Find My App

Apple’s Find My app is an app that allows users to track the position of their devices while they are in use.

This program has its origins in the legendary Find My iPhone and Find My Macbook apps, both of which were published in 2010.

The Find My app is a godsend for someone who frequently misplaces their AirPods and other Apple items.

With this program, you can quickly locate your misplaced iPhone, Apple Watch, MacBook, Mac Mini, and Airpods on a map or make a sound to alert you to its whereabouts.

Let’s see how you can use the Find My app on your iPhone to find your Airpods.

Step 1: On your iPhone, look for the Find My app. Open it. This app is already installed on your phone and cannot be removed.

If you can’t find it, roll down to your main screen and type ‘Find My’ into the phone’s search box at the top.

If it’s not preinstalled, you can download the Find My app in the App Store.

Step 2: Now, swipe down at the bottom of the screen, select ‘Devices‘, and select your AirPods from the list.

Step 3: Look at the map to discover where they were last linked. Near your AirPods name, you’ll also find the nearby street address.

Step 4: Tap ‘Play Sound‘ if your AirPods are close. This function in the Find My application makes your AirPods make a ‘beep‘ sound. It won’t be particularly loud, but you’ll be able to see and hear it if they’re close.

 Note: Meanwhile, if you’re wondering how to locate one AirPod at a time, you may mute an individual AirPod at a time by tapping left or right. 

Once you’ve found your AirPods, tap ‘Mute’ or ‘Stop’ to stop the sound, or put them all back in the AirPod case to stop the sound.

Step 5: Tap on ‘Directions‘ to navigate to your AirPods location.

Method 2: Using iCloud On Web Browser

Step 1: Go to icloud.com/find in your browser. Any major web browser will work.

Step 2: Then use your Apple ID and password to log in. You can try Forgot Apple ID or Password if you don’t remember your Apple ID or password.

Step 3: Select All Devices. This will be seen at the very top of your screen.

Your Apple Devices will be listed just at bottom of your screen if you’re using a mobile device. If your AirPods aren’t shown, slide up to see all of your Apple devices.

Step 4: After that, Select your AirPods. On a map, this will indicate their last known location.

Step 5: Click Play Sound to find the AirPod.

Step 6: Then, click both Mute Left and Mute Right icons to locate one AirPod at a time.

Is it possible to track dead AirPods using the Find My App?

No, you can only view your AirPods’ “last known location” on the Find My app if they’ve died. AirPods can only be actively tracked if the battery life is still intact. But you can try the provided methods to find your AirPods.

Can AirPods be found in the Charging Case?

If your AirPods are still in their power adapter, you won’t be able to monitor them. If they are outside the case, they will only reconnect to your phone (creating a Bluetooth that the Find My app may exploit).

Your AirPods aren’t linked to Bluetooth and their location isn’t updated when they’re in their charging case.

The AirPods Max is the lone exception to this rule, as they may stay connected for up to 12 hours inside their Smart Case.

How to Turn on Lost Mode on AirPods?

Launch the Find My app on your iPhone and hit Devices to enable Lost Mode on your AirPods. Then, under Mark As Lost, choose your AirPods, scroll up, and touch Activate. After that, hit Continue and type in your phone number. Finally, touch activates after enabling Notify When Found.
