If you have a Frigidaire electric oven, then the interior is heated by two heating elements. The element on the top that is easily visible is the broil element. The element on the bottom of your oven, typically covered by a metal protective plate, is the bake element. While both are used, the bake element does a large bulk of the work, which means if it is not working, then you will notice.

This process covers a bake element that is exposed in the oven.

While it seems like replacing the bake element will involve some complex disassembly, it is actually rather simple. The first step, as always, is to unplug the oven from the electricity. Now you will want to remove the racks. This gives you access to the bottom protective plate. In some models, you can pull this up, and others will require you to remove some screws.

Once the plate is removed, you have full access to the bake element. You will see that on the back of your oven tub, there are mounting screws. You will want to remove these on each side. Next, remove the screws that secure the bake element to the bottom of the oven tub.

Now you can pull the bake element towards you. Go gently as pulling it out of the back of the oven will reveal the wires you need to disconnect. As you disconnect the wires, be sure not to let them slip back into the oven. You can get them back out, but it often involves taking off the back panel behind your oven. That is a lot of extra work that can easily be avoided. With the old bake element fully removed, you can now install the new one. You will want to reconnect the wires before securing any of the screws and reassembling your oven in order to test it.
